PermalinkEver had trouble dealing with stubbord kids who pout and throw tantrums when in public? Its something most parents have to deal with, and it could prove to be both humiliating and tiresome. There might be a solution for that. Kinda. This half-ingenious, half-crazy gadget invented by a Japanese scientist will make sure your kids smile when you want them to.
Its called the Electro Smile and it works by putting on the contraption shown in the image above, which constantly sends electric shocks to a childs cheeks, triggering the muscles in their face to force an insincere smilecomplete with a jolt that excites the entire body. The shocks are actually strong enough to keep the smiles on their faces even without the device, with a minorside-effectof twitching from time to time. Moreover, the settings are adjustable to give a more powerful shock that is sure to make even the most stubborn of kids to put on a smile.
The description sounds more like a torture and its creepy to say the least. The things Japanese think about are simply out of this world, I tell you. Now that I think about it, maybe its more like 5-percent ingenious, 95-percent crazy.News Weird, Image Credit

Permalink|Email this|CommentsGiving out details about your Super Bowl ad prior to the game used to be a marketing no-no, but that strategy makes less sense in the age of social media. Two days before the game, many advertisers had already loaded their Super Bowl ads onto YouTube. For some, like Volkswagen, this seemed to pay off, but for others its hard to say.
For you, however, its a bonanza, as weve compiled all the stuff thats already hit YouTube. If you see any that we havent loaded here yet, just let us know in the comments.
"At-risk" preppy youths get a visit to a luxury prison in a takeoff of the "Scared Straight" TV specials.
Smooth jazz dweeb Kenny G amiably pokes fun at himself in the second installment of "Startled Smart."
Supposedly inspired by a real event, some office worker hit "reply all" when he really shouldn't have.
A man parks next to a chimpanzee. Stop me if you've heard this one.
This bit featuring talking autos made me want to rent Pixar's Cars again.
Weary border guards share a moment and a Coke in an extremely well-produced spot.
"Some gems that didn't make it past the censors." If you're into babies talking sorta dirty, this is for you.
What looks like an ad for a local dealer turns into a mini-Transformers movie. It's a funny premise, and very well executed. It's one of five commercials that GM Chevrolet will be airing during Super Bowl XLV.
British "Minister of Detourism" sets u! p premis e for the money shot: A baby doll flung against a glass wall.
This ad asks the question, "Have we been hypnotized to believe compact cars are good enough?" Uh, maybe. Maybe we just want to save money on gas.
Hyundai continues to get to the root of our compact car obsession. Did we develop this in childhood perhaps?
Hyundai believes many drivers are, in effect, sheep because they keep buying boring cars.
Finally, Hyundai has the cure for our compact car fixation: A hypnotism session reminiscent of the dream sequence in The Big Lebowski. Of course, having Jeff Bridges on hand for the voiceover helps cement the connection.
There are apparently some secret clues in this ad, but you might be too distracted by the James Bond-type villains, the aliens and the Poseiden-like ocean god to notice.
A bunch of people are loading up ice and stuff for a stunt involving what looks like a fleet of Mercedes. I hope these are professional drivers.
Motorola's PR agency produces video taking on Apple's iconic "1984" ad and loses.
Fifteen seconds of the actual 60-second Motorola spot shows the brand is really begging for a comparison to Apple's iconic "1984" ad.
Here, a jerk taunts pug and gets what's coming to him. Doritos may risk the ire of PETA with this one.
An unexpected ending puts this spot ahead of the pack.
An i ncredibly odd little man will shame himself repeatedly to taste the crumbs at the bottom of a Doritos pack.
The Genesis story gets a retelling with a plug for Doritos. For some reason Eve seems way out of Adam's league.
A bearded man-child ruins a kid's birthday by blowing out the candles and making his own wishes.
Dieting can be hard work.
Bad sound quality plagues a decent idea that would no doubt become annoying on repeated viewings.
The differences between men and women's thinking are laid bare in this ad, which, because of the term "I want to sleep with her," seems a bit racy for the brand.
A guy trying to impress a pretty girl in an elevator can't help but make an ass of himself.
Preppy villains who look like they came from an '80s movie get their comeuppance thanks to a trick cooler.
If you can't get enough of Kim Kardashian - and hey, who can? - then you'll love seeing her cavort here.
Imagine you worked on a construction site with Richard Lewis and Roseanne Barr. Yes, I'd make use of a jackhammer as well.
Country star Faith Hill complains about her high heels, poses for pictures and gushes about the brand in this behind-the-scenes teaser.
An early favorite for the most-loved ad of the g! ame feat ures a pint-sized Darth Vader and leads up to a satisfying payoff.
VW's other spot promotes this Fall's 21st Century Beetle by showing a CGIed black beetle racing around a forest and dodging millipedes and other obstacles.

Do you use Netflix? Many do unless youre Canadian and happen to be disappointed by the lack of content the service offers.
For those, myself included, who use Netflix, be it through Apple TV, PS3, iPhone, iPad, or any of the numerous other access methods, its possible you struggle from a bulging Instant Queue.
For those that suffer from queue overload and cannot decide what you want to watch, thankfully there exists a new service, Qpicker, which can assist you with your film selection. Its free, fun, and dead simple to use.
Heres how it works:
Login using your Netflix account. Thats it. Once Qpicker connects with Netflix youre up and running.
Qpicker selects an option for one to watch, or if youre not satisfied and want to have a little fun, simply select pick a different movie.
Qpicker flips through your queue until you find something that fulfills your film fancy.
Upon discovering what you want to watch, hit the watch button, a separate browser window opens and your film begins playing through Netflix.
One thing that Qpicker lacks, which some may desire, is a genre selection option so the service shuffles through your queue, selecting only certain types of film. To me this isnt that much of a loss given that the reason one uses Qpicker is because they have no idea what to watch in the first place.
Qpicker is a grand option for Netflix users who have trouble picking an item to watch, its free and super simple to use. Give it ! a try an d let us know what you think.
Youd think the YouTube player would have more options by now, controls similar to whats available on a DVD remote, things like skipping scenes and zooming would be nice options to have.
A free service called EmbedPlus aims to fill the void of the missing features within YouTubes basic player and brings users options like scene marking, annotations,
with additional tools such as slow motion, and the ability to read the videos real-time commenting from YouTube within the player.
To begin customizing a video, users simply provide EmbedPlus with the URL from YouTube. After that, adding a few scene markers and notes (annotations) is an easy process because it embeds the original video within the page enabling users to reference the time stamps or points that should be marked as scenes.
What we didnt like: Its not a big deal but if we had to nitpick, the design of the annotations are kinda lame and wed like to see a more creative and more attractive use of video notes.
Why its cool: EmbedPlus is a useful tool for content creators, bloggers and anyone who shares video on the web. And, giving your viewers the option to skip scenes as opposed to snipping out scenes with services like snipsnip.it offers more value to your visitors.
Weve created video with EmbedPlus to show you how it works, if this is the first time youre viewing this video, enjoy. Enter the Egyptian hypnosis.

A number of high-profile executives have been making their way out of Nokias headquarters on their own accord as of late but if reports from Germany business weekly Wirtschaftswoche are correct, many more could be exiting the company as Nokia CEO Stephen Elop begins a radical restructuring of his management team.
Reports suggest that Mary T. McDowell, head of Nokias mobile phones unit could soon be leaving, as could Niklas Savander, manager of Nokias markets unit. Tero Ojanpera, services and mobile solutions manager and Chief Development Officer Kai Oistamo are also expected to go, with it suggested that Elop has ordered headhunters to source suitable replacements for these and other executive board members.
The Nokia Blog quite rightly points out we could learn more about Nokias strategic shift on February 11 at Capital Markets day in London. Whether cuts are announced or not, we do think we could see some of the first major decisions made by Stephen Elop coming to light since his appointment as Nokias CEO.

PermalinkIt was an interesting week in the Twitterverse, with top topics spread out over a wide gamut of news, cultures and countries. The protests in Egypt took the top slot, of course, with each day yielding new developments about the countrys political unrest. Social medias role in the protests also fueled the Twitter discussion.
A few developments in the world of soccer kept the sport in its usual location, hovering near the top of the trends chart. This week it comes in at number two.
And word of Britney Spears new album and music video brought her name back into the Twitter zeitgeist. The buzz landed the pop singer at n! umber th ree.
For the full list of top trends, check out the chart below, compiled by our friends at What the Trend. Because this is a topical list, hashtag memes and games have been omitted from the chart.
